Surrounded by snow, myths, and clouds, Mount Olympus is the highest and most famous mountain in Greece. At the boundary between Macedonia and Thessaly, it dominates the Thessalian plain and the Thermaic Gulf. Skolio peak - the second-highest sub-peak after Mytikas- completes an arc of about 200 degrees, with its steep slopes forming on the west side, like a wall, an impressive precipitous amphitheatrical cavity, 700 meters (2,300 ft) in depth and 1,000 meters (3,300 ft) in circumference, the 'Megala Kazania'.
